Backyard in Bloom

The challenge: take an already lovely and well-maintained yard and turn it into a riot of color and fun! Here we see what happens when we combine the Prairie and Tropical aesthetics with an eye toward a long-season and straightforward maintenance. There are also examples of “borrowed landscaping” in hydrangea leaning over the fence, wire lattice trellis, an budget-friendly way to incorporate elegant shapes along a fence, and the power of bedding annuals to bridge gaps in perennial blooming seasons. The home-owners and I worked on this in bite-sized pieces over several years, shifting and changing with the needs of their growing family.
