Sensory Courtyard

When I was approached to design this calming retreat space in a crisis care center, I was moved by the caring compassion of the employees tasked with overseeing this project. I sought to create a space that billowed with serene movement and offered soothing touch and aroma at every turn. There are even wild strawberries at your fingertips when you rest on the sitting wall. Two separate aromatherapy areas are surrounded by the rustle of bamboo and ornamental grasses. The walking spiral became the centerpiece of the design and is carefully laid out to maintain its shape even in winter when many of the tactile and scented plants are dormant. It was an honor to be involved in this project, built and conceived of in partnership with Boulder Falls Landscaping.
